How Efficient Is My Boiler?

Boilers may not appear to be the most fascinating topic, but they may save you a lot of money if you make them more efficient. Your boiler is responsible for your home's heating and because heating your home consumes roughly 60% of your energy bill, the more efficient your boiler is, the lower your energy bills will be.

In this blog, we go through how you can check how efficient your boiler is.

How do I find the efficiency of my boiler?

Finding the efficiency of your boiler

The first step to find out how efficient your boiler is, try looking for a small sticker with an energy efficiency rating on your boiler. This sticker can be easily found on most new and modern boilers, either on the boiler itself or in the package you were given. On this, the rating will be plainly indicated.

If your boiler is older or you don't have this sticker, there are a few additional options for determining its efficiency.

Efficiency on an old boiler

If you have an older style boiler, you will need to figure out the model number. One of the ways you can do this is by checking underneath the boiler, where the pipes exit and under the front flap, where the dials are located.  You will be able to find a small sticker or plate with the precise model.

You will also be able to see a brand name, such as Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Baxi, or any number of others, which will be seen on this sticker. Along with the brand, there will be a model, which will usually be a number referring to the boiler's size such as Worcester Bosch Greenstar 24i.

Once you have the model number, you will be able to search this up to help identify the efficiency.

Can't find the model number?

Model numbers and details can often wear off or you have misplaced the documents that came along with your boiler, making it hard to help identify the efficiency of your boiler. When this happens we are still able to gain a rough idea. Next time you hire a heating engineer, ask them to help you and have a look inside the boiler for you!
